Cowabunga!! Or actually pig-a-bung-a!! This week on This American Life, it's gonna be a crazy ass episode when actor/comedian Fred Armisen of Saturday Night Live and Portlandia impersonates host Ira Glass. One of the stories in the show called "Doppelganger" is about pig bung and how it may be passed off as imitation calamari. I was interviewed for the show too! It'll be funky, skunky and chunky! Tune in to your local NPR station this weekend or download the podcast when available.

are you kidding me? I just got out of my car, listening to npr. I had to stay int he car for an extra 10 minutes to finish.

well, Ira, you got it wrong again. firstly, like you, I am Chinese too.
so this is not about anything racist. in fact, you were not so thorough. you said pork bung was exported to the Philippines. this is where you should have focused.

Pork bung fried right, with no flour but double fried, still looks like calamari but taste...oh so glorious.

they call it chicharon bulaklak. it looks like calamari though they sliced it differently. and they do not flour.

double fry..fry, cool and fry again. salt and then dip in vinegar. yummmmmm.

ah yes, though I never need it..they say you wash it down with San Miguel Beer.

and no, in the philippines, its unlikely they would subsitute that as pork bung cost so much more than calamari.

squid is easy to catch..just a boat, midnight and a lantern and fishing poles.

pork buing has to be bought from a hog farmer.

please ask your sister to recook it. better yet, go to a filipino restaurant and ask them to prepare you chicharon bulaklak...yes like chicharones. bulaklak means flower.

and yes, do not need to wash too.

best is to use white vinegar. I like tabasco. enjoy.

pork bung rules. and yes. I like haggis.

liver is great..mixed with heart and all that. and it does not have to be sheep..it can be any animal except wolf so says the chinese.

and yes, thank you for many years of good listening..and yes, I love NPR.
