The Notorious D.O.G.

They really should have a Surgeon General's warning on them. Something to the effect of: "Warning - These effin' bacon-wrapped hot dogs will kill you till you're dead!" I was recently advised by my cousin who is a doctor (every family should have one) to lay off the danger dogs. He also mentioned something about LDLs and triglycerides. I'm no physician but I have a feeling that those aren't good. Bacon-wrapped hot dogs, like many things in life, are delicious and bad. Pig on pig. That's hot.

I'll be waxing poetic about this sinful snack on KCRW's Good Food show with Evan Kleiman this SATURDAY, JULY 14th at 11AM Pacific Standard Time (PST) in Southern California on 89.9FM KCRW.

You can also listen via the internet, go to KCRW.COM, click on the "LIVE" button at the top of the page and listen to the streaming broadcast, also at 11AM PST on Saturday, July 14th.

I wonder if those who bought your Yard Sale hot dogs will also be tuned in. I for one wish that I can be eating said bacon-dog while I listen in.

Would bacon-wrapped all-beef dogs be less hot? (not pig on pig) What's your take here?

I heard your KCRW podcast. You are becoming a natural on the Mic. Good job and hopefully more media exposure for you.

I've heard of actual dog being cooked and wrapped in bacon. It's like Pig on Dog and you would not be able to tell the difference between a hot dog and HOT CANINE.

What happened to you? I used to look forward to a new post every 4 days or so...now it's like one every month. Do you have writer's block? What's the reason? Don't deprive the world and get to more writing.

This is not the same Deependding I've come to expect. This has obviously taken a backseat to other projects because I don't see the same focus. I see that you are doing radio and TV. Maybe that's it. Don't lose what got you there...Or else your core audience will leave and forget you. And bacon-wrapped hot dogs? What a cop-out. Next you will be doing a piece on cornbread stuffing. Stop your lazy journalism and get back to your roots.

I think this could very well substitute for truffle orgies, chocolate syrup experimentation, and other unmentionable plastic devices ... Gros Bisous, Ms. Glaze

Recipe for cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped.. DEEP FRIED hot dogs.. as found on allrecipes. com... oh my. this puts a healthy spin on your little "grilled" bacon wrapped things...

Hawg-n-dogs
10 hot dogs
2 slices Pepper Jack cheese
10 slices bacon
4 cups oil for deep frying
10 hot dog buns
20 toothpicks
DIRECTIONS
Slice each hot dog 3/4 of the way through lengthwise. Cut each slice of cheese into 5 strips, and insert 1 strip of cheese into each hot dog. Wrap bacon snugly around each hot dog, securing each end with a toothpick.
Preheat oil in a saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Carefully drop the hot dogs in the hot oil, and fry for 1 to 2 minutes, or until bacon is brown and crispy. Remove from oil, and drain on paper towels. Remove and discard toothpicks. Serve on buns with your favorite condiments.
